The New Years' Eve that wasn't

I'm so disappointed! We had such lovely plans for New Years' Eve. Emily and Matt were going to come down, Marilyn and family and Grandma Pratt were coming over, the food was cooking, Emily was driving down, life was good! Then we were hanging up coats, and Isaac tossed Ian his coat, which whacked him in the head with the zipper. He was crying so loud his mouth was rather wide open, and I caught a glimpse of something. He has white spots all over his tonsils! So, needless to say, we looked it up, figured it wasn't worth the risk of spreading strep (if he has it) to the rest of the family. The doctor is closed, since it's a holiday, and I'm so sad! We'll have to find something else to do by ourselves. Hope everybody else has a lovely holiday.

Christmas weekend

Friday night (the 26th) we had so much fun. We got the kids in bed, and then Miles and Natalie and Gavin came over. We had quesadillas with my new quesadilla maker, which is a fantastic little invention, and Natalie and I watched Father Goose and played Phase 10 and talked till after midnight. We're good at that. Miles and Gavin and Derek played video games, just like the good old days. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, and want to do it again sometime.

Sunday after church the boys got an uninterrupted "daddy day". They played games with Derek for a long time, and we put together some more toys (hopefully the last of them) and did not much. It was quite relaxing, actually.

This week, so far is not quite as relaxing. I have so many things I want to do, the things are all getting colds, and we actually have quite a lot going on until the end of the week. So far, I've rearranged my teaching schedule (involves lots of phone calls), tried to find new babysitters for my teaching, picked up and delivered choir music to choir directors, started practicing with the boys again, found my bedroom floor, and done heaps of laundry. That doesn't sound like much, but it takes forever! Family pictures are tonight, and I still don't know what we're all wearing. Should be fun.

A very, merry Christmas

Yesterday was such a fun Christmas! Other than Kaleb not going to sleep until almost nine, and then the boys waking up at 5:30, it was lovely. Derek and I are very tired from the early rising and all the excitement. The boys loved giving each other their presents they got at the dollar store, and we spent most of the morning getting out toys and assembling them. We still have a few to do, mostly the models Derek got them. We went to Fulwider's for lunch and presents from Grandma Terry and Papa Rodger. When the boys were too tired and ready for their other toys again, we went back home and got out the new video game and played Cars races for awhile. The boys, for the most part, were very good and had few fights. Today, I think we'll have more fights as the boys start looking around at the other stuff and wanting to play with it, but for now, we're doing good.

I woke up this morning and was ready to take Christmas down. So now, at 11:00 a.m., the boxes are packed and ready for Derek to put them away when he gets home. Now I'm ready to start getting things ready for life when school starts again. Got to get my teaching schedule worked out, technique ready for my students, and a schedule figured out for me and the kids!

My first blog

I am a lousy record keeper. My children's pictures are not labeled or dated, which is especially bad when you have twins. I have no scrapbooks for my kids, and mine end somewhere in high school. But I am fairly addicted to my computer and love to do things every day: check my email(s), check my favorite websites, check the weather, my bank accounts, see if anybody's on to instant message . . . But I don't know what all my kids' first words were, when they all walked, or what they did last week. So I figure I'll catch up with technology and try to get my love of my computer to get me recording stuff about my kids.

After much deliberation and help from my family, I came up with the title for my blog. The most important things in my life are my five boys (including my husband), music, and the things my boys love: cars, motorcycles, building and fixing things. Musical mayhem was already taken.

So we'll see how this goes!
